O Charlie Chaplin στην ταινία "Ο μεγάλος Δικτάτωρ" γυρισμένη το 1940,είναι η πρώτη ομιλούσα ταινία του Σαρλώ. Πεισματικά αρνιόταν, για μιάμιση περίπου δεκαετία, να ακολουθήσει την τεχνολογική εξέλιξη που επέτρεπε την ομιλία στον κινηματογράφο. Όταν τελικά ενέδωσε, το έκανε γιατί είχε πραγματικά κάτι να πει, συγκλονίζοντας όλο τον κόσμο τότε, αλλά και τις μετέπειτα γενιές που θα ερχόταν σε επαφή με το φιλμ.

Φυσικά το φιλμ απαγορεύτηκε στην Γερμανία και στις συμμαχικές της χώρες! Η ταινία είναι το διαχρονικότερο μανιφέστο ανθρωπισμού που έγινε ποτέ! Ο "Μεγάλος Δικτάτορας" είναι μια ταινία που σατιρίζει τα σατανικά σχέδια του Χίτλερ. Με τον Chaplin σε διπλό ρόλο, σαν δικτάτορας και σαν Εβραίος κουρέας που μοιάζει με τον πρώτο, το φιλμ παρουσιάζει τα μονοπάτια της ζωής των δύο πρωταγωνιστών έως ότου αυτά διασταυρώνονται και ο ένας παίρνει την θέση του άλλου.

Λίγο πριν τον συγκλονιστικό και διαχρονικό του λόγο, ο αλητάκος κάθεται μαζί με τον φίλο του, και ομοϊδεάτη, αξιωματικό Σουλτζ. Προκειμένου να μην αποκαλυφθεί ότι ο κουρέας έχει πάρει την θέση του δικτάτορα, ο Σουλτζ παρακινεί τον αλητάκο να μιλήσει.

Πέρα από το νόημα που του αποδίδεται λόγω του σεναρίου, αυτή η στιχομυθία μπορεί να λειτουργήσει και σε μεταφορικό επίπεδο σαν ο Σουλτζ να είναι το κοινό που περιμένει κάποιον να του δώσει ελπίδα κατά του τυράνου, αλλά επίσης, και σαν το κινηματογραφικό κοινό που λατρεύοντας τον Chaplin περιμένει επιτέλους να ακούσει την φωνή του μη αντέχοντας άλλο την εμμονή στον βωβό κινηματογράφο.

Το Δικαίωµα στη Δηµοκρατία
1. Καθένας έχει το δικαίωµα να συµµετέχει στη διακυβέρνηση της χώρας του, είτε άµεσα είτε έµµεσα, µε αντιπροσώπους ελεύθερα εκλεγµένους.

2. Καθένας έχει το δικαίωμα να γίνεται δεκτός, υπό ίσους όρους, στις δημόσιες υπηρεσίες της χώρας του.

Φαγητό και Στέγη για Όλους

Η τεχνική και επαγγελματική εκπαίδευση θα πρέπει να είναι διαθέσιμες κατά γενικό κανόνα και η πρόσβαση στην ανώτατη παιδεία πρέπει να είναι ανοιχτή σε όλους, υπό ίσους όρους, ανάλογα µε τις ικανότητές τους.

2. Η εκπαίδευση πρέπει να αποβλέπει στην πλήρη ανάπτυξη της ανθρώπινης προσωπικότητας και στην ενίσχυση του σεβασµού των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωµάτων και των θεµελιωδών ελευθεριών. Πρέπει να προάγει την κατανόηση, την ανεκτικότητα και τη φιλία ανάµεσα σε όλα τα έθνη και σε όλες τις φυλές και τις θρησκευτικές οµάδες, και να ευνοεί την ανάπτυξη των δραστηριοτήτων των Ηνωµένων Εθνών για τη διατήρηση της ειρήνης.

Κανείς δεν επιτρέπεται να υποστεί αυθαίρετες επεμβάσεις στην ιδιωτική του ζωή, την οικογένεια, την κατοικία ή την αλληλογραφία του, ούτε προσβολές της τιμής και της υπόληψής του. Καθένας έχει το δικαίωµα να προστατευτεί από τον νόμο από επεµβάσεις και προσβολές αυτού του είδους.

Ελευθερία μετακινήσεων
1. Ο καθένας έχει το δικαίωµα να κυκλοφορεί ελεύθερα και να επιλέγει τον τόπο της διαµονής του στο εσωτερικό ενός κράτους.

2. Καθένας έχει το δικαίωμα να εγκαταλείπει οποιαδήποτε χώρα, ακόμα και τη δική του, και να επιστρέφει σε αυτήν.

Δικαίωμα στο άσυλο
1. Κάθε άτοµο που καταδιώκεται έχει το δικαίωµα να ζητά άσυλο και να του παρέχεται άσυλο σε άλλες χώρες.

Το περιβόητο ντοκυμαντέρ. Είναι λίγο τραβηγμένο (δεν γμωρίζω πολλόυς συνταξιούχους στο 53 ούτε δίνουμε 1200 λίρες ετησίως για 'φακελάκια')

Με ενόχλησαν ορισμένες απο τις αντιδράσεις των Ελλήνων (εδω #GoGreek) Μου φαίνεται ανόητο κάθε φορά που συμβαίνει κάτι (πχ αρνούνται οι Γερμανοί να μας δανείσουν, μας κριτικάρουν οι Άγγλοι) να καταφευγουμε σε παιδαριώδη επιχειρήματα του τύπου:

Γερμανία: Η οικονομική σας διαχείρηση είναι χάλια
Ελλάδα: Το ξέρουμε. Φέρτε δανεικά.
Γερμανία: Δεν σας δίνουμε άλλα.
Ελληναράδες: Εσείς είστε χειρότεροι, είχατε τον Χίτλερ

Αγγλία: Στην Ελλάδα υπάρχει πολύ φακελάκι
Ελληναράδες: Σαν δεν ντρέπεστε, φέρτε πίσω τα κλεμμένα

Δεν διδάξαμε ΕΜΕΙΣ τον πολιτισμό στους ξένους αλλά κάποιοι άνθρωποι που έζησαν σε αυτό τον τόπο πριν απο 2500 χρόνια. Χρειάζεται μεγάλη προσπάθεια για να αποδειχτεί οτι είναι "πρόγονοί" μας διότι έχει περάσει πολύ μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα. Αλλά και παππόυδες μας να ήταν πάλι δεν δικαιολογήται η συμπεριφορά μας. Κι αν το πάμε έτσι, η αρχαία ελληνική γραμματεία διασώθηκε χάρη στους Άραβες διότι οι Βυζαντινοί (που είναι πιο άμεσοι πρόγονοί μας καθώς μας χωρίζουν μόνο 1500 χρόνια) κατέστρεφαν οτιδήποτε αρχαίο ελληνικό όπως ναούς και έσβηναν τα ελληνικά χειρόγραφα για να γράψουν ψαλμούς και άλλες αηδίες. Δεν άκουσα όμως κανέναν να παραπονιέται για την εκκλησία που ήταν υπευθυνοι για αυτά.

Όσο για τα "κλεμμένα" το μεγαλύτερο μέρος απο ελληνικές αρχαιότητες πουλήθηκε απο Έλληνες. Δεν φταίνε οι "αγοραστές" αν οι αρχαιότητες βρίσκονται εκεί που βρίσκονται και όχι στην Ελλάδα. Και επιπλέον οι αρχαιότητες λειτούργησαν ώς πρεσβευτές της Ελλάδας που τους χρειαζόμασταν άμεσα μιας που απο τον μεσαίωνα και μετά δεν έχουμε κάνει τίποτα σπουδαίο σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο.

Ναί, νικήσαμε τους Τούρκούς αλλά μας βοήθησαν οι ξένοι (με το αζημίωτο) και δεν ήταν κάτι που να είχε παγκόσμια σημασία.

Ναί πολεμήσαμε τους Γερμανούς στον Β' Παγκόσμιο αλλά το ίδιο έκανε και η μισή Ευρώπη. Και δεν νικήσαμε κιόλας.

Όσον αφορά το συγκεκριμένο ντοκυμαντέρ, δεν νομίζω οτι ήταν και πολύ "ψαγμένο" Επειδή 50 γιατροί στο Κολωνάκι τα παίρνουν δεν σημαίνει οτι όλος ο ιατρικός κλάδος είναι για τα μπάζα.

Υπάρχουν παρανοικά επιδόματα αυτό είναι αλήθεια αλλά υπάρχουν και πολλά φυσιολογικά που ορθώς δίνονται εκεί που δίνονται. Οσο για τους μισθούς εαν υπάρχουν αφελείς που πιστευουν οτι οι Έλληνες πληρώνονται καλλύτερα απο τους ξένους, ας μετακομίσουν εδώ να δουν την γλύκα.

Επίσης αυτό το κουλό στο τέλος οπου οι Άγγλοι αποφασίζουν οτι θα επιστρέψουν στο δικό τους σύστημα "για το καλό της χώρας" είναι για τα μπάζα. Δηλαδή τι νομίζουν? Οτι οι Έλληνες είχαν πολλές επιλογές και πήραν όλες τις λάθος αποφάσεις? Οτι το να πάς κόντρα στο κύμα είναι ευκολη υπόθεση αρκεί να είσαι ηθικός άνθρωπος? Δεν είναι έτσι. Ρωτήστε και τους "καλούς Γερμανους" που αφήσαν τον Χίτλερ να τους κυβερνάει.

Η Ελληνική Κυβέρνηση σχεδιάζει να μετατρέψει τον δημόσιο χαρακτήρα του ΕΑΑ σε ιδιωτικό σε αντίθεση με αντίστοιχα ερευνητικά κέντρα στο εξωτερικό τα οποία αποτελούν δημόσια ερευνητικά κέντρα. Σχεδιάζει επίσης να περικόψει επιπλέον τον ετήσιο προϋπολογισμό του Αστεροσκοπείου κατά 30%. Αν αυτό πραγματοποιηθεί, πολύ κρίσιμες υπηρεσίες, όπως η προστασία και η παρακολούθηση της χώρας από φυσικές καταστροφές, η σεισμική και η μετεωρολογική παρακολούθηση σε 24ωρη βάση, οι διαστημικές παρατηρήσεις και οι μεγάλες αστρονομικές υποδομές θα καταρρεύσουν.

Το Εθνικό Αστεροσκοπείο Αθηνών (ΕΑΑ) είναι το αρχαιότερο Ερευνητικό Κέντρο στα Βαλκάνια με συνεχόμενη παρουσία σε ερευνητικό και κοινωνικό επίπεδο τα τελευταία 170 χρόνια.

Το ΕΑΑ θεμελιώθηκε το 1842 και σήμερα αποτελείται από 5 Ινστιτούτα: (1) Αστρονομίας και Αστροφυσικής, (2) Γεωδυναμικό, (3) Ερευνών Περιβάλλοντος και Βιώσιμης Ανάπτυξης, (4) Διαστημικών Εφαρμογών και Τηλεπισκόπησης και (5) Αστροσωματιδιακής Φυσικής «ΝΕΣΤΩΡ».

Το ιστορικό κτήριο του Αστεροσκοπείου, το οποίο πρώτο φιλοξένησε τις υπηρεσίες του, χτίστηκε στο Λόφο των Νυμφών απέναντι από την Ακρόπολη και κατασκευάστηκε από τον διάσημο Δανό Αρχιτέκτονα Θεόφιλο Χάνσεν. Το ιστορικό κτήριο Σίνα του ΕΑΑ βραβεύτηκε το 2010 με το European Union prize/Europa Nostra Award ως μνημείο πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς.

Η Ελληνική Κυβέρνηση σχεδιάζει να μετατρέψει τον δημόσιο χαρακτήρα του ΕΑΑ σε ιδιωτικό σε αντίθεση με αντίστοιχα ερευνητικά κέντρα στο εξωτερικό τα οποία αποτελούν δημόσια ερευνητικά κέντρα. Σχεδιάζει επίσης να περικόψει επιπλέον τον ετήσιο προϋπολογισμό του Αστεροσκοπείου κατά 30%.

Αν αυτό πραγματοποιηθεί, πολύ κρίσιμες υπηρεσίες, όπως η προστασία και η παρακολούθηση της χώρας από φυσικές καταστροφές, η σεισμική και η μετεωρολογική παρακολούθηση σε 24ωρη βάση, οι διαστημικές παρατηρήσεις και οι μεγάλες αστρονομικές υποδομές θα καταρρεύσουν.

Σήμερα, η Ελλάδα διαθέτει λιγότερο από 0,6% του ΑΕΠ για την έρευνα σε σχέση με τον μέσο όρο της Ευρώπης που κυμαίνεται στο 1,9%.

Η συνολική δαπάνη για τη μισθοδοσία του ΕΑΑ δεν υπερβαίνει τα 5 εκ. €, ενώ όλα τα λειτουργικά έξοδα του ΕΑΑ καλύπτονται από ευρωπαϊκά ανταγωνιστικά προγράμματα.

Λαμβάνοντας υπόψη ότι η ιδιωτική χρηματοδότηση της έρευνας στην Ελλάδα είναι ελάχιστη ειδικά σε αυτή τη δύσκολη οικονομική συγκύρια, η μείωση της κρατικής χρηματοδότησης θα καταστρέψει τη διεπιστημονικότητα του ΕΑΑ, μειώνοντας την ικανότητα για έρευνα, εκπαίδευση και παροχή κοινωνικών υπηρεσιών.

Εξειδικευμένοι επιστήμονες και τεχνικοί θα μείνουν άνεργοι καθώς τα τηλεσκόπια του ΕΑΑ, τα εργαστήρια και οι βασικές υποδομές για την αντιμετώπιση των φυσικών καταστροφών θα υποβαθμιστούν.

Εάν δεν δράσουμε τώρα, θα χρειαστούν δεκαετίες για να επαναφέρουμε το ΕΑΑ στη σημερινή του κατάσταση. Μη έχοντας άλλον τρόπο να αντιδράσουμε σε αυτές τις άδικες αποφάσεις, σας ζητάμε να υπογράψετε αυτή την αίτηση, υποστηρίζοντας τον δημόσιο χαρακτήρα του ΕΑΑ.

The National Observatory of Athens (NOA) is the oldest Research Center in the Balkan area with a continuous contribution to research and social services in the last 170 years.

It was established in 1842 and it hosts 5 Institutes in a wide spectrum of thematic areas: (1) Astronomy and Astrophysics, (2) Geodynamics, (3) Environmental Research & Sustainable Development, (4) Space Applications & Remote Sensing, (5) Astroparticle Physics. The historical Observatory building, which first hosted the NOA headquarters, situated on the Hill of the Nymphs opposite the Acropolis and constructed by the famous Danish architect Theofil Hansen, was awarded the 2010 European Union prize/Europa Nostra Award.

The Greek Government, plans to change the public character of NOA and convert it into a private institution, to the contrary of the status that other similar institutions have around the world. It also plans to suppress by next year the annual state funding of NOA by 30%.

If this happens, critical social services offered by NOA, such as the National Seismic Network and the meteorological monitoring with a wide 24 hours base coverage of Greece, the service to public protection against natural hazards, the space observations and the important astronomical infrastructures in the region will collapse.

Today, Greece allocates less than 0.6% of its GDP for research, compared to the 1.85% EU average. The annual budget for salaries at NOA is less than 5 million Euros while all operational costs are funded through the overhead of competitive EU projects. Taking into consideration that private funding for basic research in Greece is extremely limited, especially during the current economic recession, the reduction of state funding will devastate the multidisciplinary NOA, thus constricting its capacity for research, education and critical social services. Experienced scientists and technicians will be driven to unemployment, while telescopes, laboratories and major infrastructure used for public protection against natural hazards will be degraded.

If we do not act now it will take several decades to recover and rebuild what we have achieved so far. Having no other ways to protest against this unprecedented decision, we ask you to sign this petition, supporting us to oppose the measures that are in the process of their final approval by the Greek State.

Unbelievable, they're doing it again. Our governments are giving even more free taxpayer money to banks!

Absolutely, we need to bailout Greece to save Greece, save Europe, and save the Euro. But the current bailout makes us the taxpayers pay back banks for 90% of their foolish investments. Greek people don't get a cent of investment, and we give a ton of money to rich bankers. And even worse - 30% of our money will go to speculators who will actually make a massive profit from gambling on a bailout!

How on earth did our governments write a bailout plan that floods banks and speculators with our money and leaves Greece with nothing? The answer -- they actually asked bankers to write the agreement. Our finance ministers are meeting in 3 days to decide on this plan -- let's send them and our parliaments a massive call to go back to the drawing board, and bailout Greece, not the banks:

At a time when money is tight everywhere and our most vital social programs are being cut, governments are caving in to powerful banking lobbies. But they say they are also worried that some banks can't absorb the loss of their Greek investments and will fail if they don't get a bailout. But if we get into trouble and ask a bank for help, they don't give us free money, they give us a loan, or an investment. Now the banks are in trouble and coming to us, why would we treat them any differently? Instead of giving away money, let's loan to or invest in the banks, and ask them to pay us the taxpayers back at a healthy rate of interest!

This is what Gordon Brown did in the UK and Obama did in the US - when banks were in danger of failing, they didn't bail them out with free money, they bought in with loans and investments. And as soon as a year later, the taxpayers made a profit from the deal! This deal is corruption, pure and simple. There's no public interest argument for giving banks and speculators a massive windfall like this, and there's every reason to try and protect public finances. Instead of giving that money away, we can invest it, in Greece, and in our own societies' abilities to recover and rebuild from the financial crisis. It's time for our politicians to stop hiding behind complex agreements written by bankers - the game is up - let's tell them no to this outrageous bailout, and ask them to come back again with something sensible:

You may have seen the pictures of starving people in the Horn of Africa on your TV screens. We are all asking: how can this be happening again? Parts of Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia are facing one of the worst droughts for 60 years, and around 10 million people are desperately in need of food, clean water and basic sanitation. But something can be done. You can add your voice to help make a difference.

Despite the urgency of the situation, most world leaders are responding too slowly. Immediate aid is essential. Yet at the same time we must not let them drop the ball on long term solutions as has too often happened in the past.

Some people look back to previous droughts and question whether things will ever change. But because of the smart aid that is supporting African leadership, progress really is being made. For example, 87% of people in the world today have enough food to eat and lead healthy lives – up from just 76% in 1970. And in Ethiopia the number of people malnourished has fallen from 71% in 1992 to 46% now.

Sudan's President al-Bashir is the world's worst mass murderer. Indicted by the International Criminal Court for genocide, he has for 20 years repeatedly butchered whole communities that challenged his rule. And it's happening again -- unless we stop him for good.

The Nuba mountains are under siege. Al-Bashir killed an entire generation of men, women and children there in the 1990s, and now he's back to brutalize the survivors. Editor Who Blamed Lara Logan for Her Gang Rape Must Go!

Remember Lara Logan, the CBS reporter who was separated from her crew while covering the revolution in Egypt and brutally raped by a mob of men? When she spoke publicly about her attack, she bravely broke a longstanding silence on the part of female reporters assaulted on the job.

But Dan Rottenberg, editor of the online arts magazine Broad Street Review, doesn't have any sympathy for Logan or outrage on her behalf. Instead, Rottenberg says Lara Logan is to blame for her gang rape because she once showed cleavage at a US award show.

Rottenberg's editor's letter, published on June 6th, is titled 'Male Sexual Abuse and Female Naivete,' six words that from the get-go suggest if women were to act more responsibly, men wouldn't commit "sex abuse," i.e rape. The letter is accompanied by a photo of Logan (above) on the red carpet, wearing a v-line neck dress and smiling for the cameras. The caption under the photo reads, "What message was the TV journalist Lara Logan sending here?"

Rottenberg goes on, "Earth to liberated women: when you display legs, thighs, or cleavage, some liberated men will see it as a sign you feel good about yourself and your sexuality. But most men will see it as a sign you want to get laid. Forewarned is forearmed."

Rape is not "getting laid" and no one ever, ever does or wears anything that "asks" to be raped. To suggest that Lara Logan's choice to wear a dress perfectly appropriate for a US awards show sent a message to Egyptian men that she wanted to be raped while doing her job as a foreign correspondent takes rape apologism to new heights.

Rottenberg ends his column by blaming a neighbor for her attempted rape and the molestation of her daughter because she cleaned her house in a halter top and shorts.

There is nothing redeemable about anything Rottenberg said; he makes excuses and blames the victim multiple times in multiple situations. He has far overstepped the bounds of an editor of a culture magazine and appointed himself arbiter of which rapes are a victim's fault and which are not. This is unacceptable.

We call on the Publisher and Board of Directors of Broad Street Review to take Mr. Rottenberg's offensive piece off the site and remove him from his position as editor.

Attitudes like Mr. Rottenberg's make victims less likely to come forward because they feel the rape is somehow their fault and protect rapists by giving them cover for their crimes.

Huge wins on Bahrain F1, War on drugs and more!

Just days ago, two things were different – questioning the global “war on drugs” was a huge taboo in government circles, and Formula 1 was set to hold their Grand Prix in Bahrain despite a brutal government crackdown on peaceful democracy protesters.

Then our community got involved.

Within 72 hours, more than 1 million of us joined these two campaigns, and we won! Formula 1 has, under intense pressure, reversed its decision to race in Bahrain and the UN Secretary-General has agreed to establish a new task force on drugs, with world leaders beginning an historic new debate on regulation and decrimalisation.

People power works, and we are seeing it more and more all over the world. Here are two stories of how …

Victory in Brutal Bahrain!

Bahrain's brutal regime uses shotguns on peaceful protesters, and locks up the nurses and doctors that treat them, but wants the world to believe all is normal. They worked hard to get the prestigious Formula 1 Grand Prix to return to the country. Then, with 48 hours until the Formula 1 decision, Bahrain reached out to the U.S. for help and Avaaz kicked into gear!

In two days, nearly 500,000 Avaaz members joined the campaign and, together, we left over 20,000 messages on the Facebook and Twitter pages of the F1 teams. The Avaaz team spoke to legendary driver Damon Hill, who added his voice to the effort. And media attention mounted.

But the F1 bigwigs decided to go ahead with the race. The Avaaz campaign was cited in thousands of articles worldwide (NYT, AFP, Reuters, ESPN) and our spokespeople were interviewed on CNN (pictured at right), BBC and many major networks.

Then, Avaaz obtained a leaked internal F1 report which shockingly concludes that Bahrain has "no human rights violations" -- turns out F1 only spoke to the government and visited a supermarket! We released our reaction, igniting a media firestorm, and finally ... the F1 teams unanimously objected to the race date in Bahrain, forcing F1 to cancel the Bahrain race for 2011!

Victory Against the War on Drugs!

The war on drugs has cost billions in tax money, funneled trillions of dollars into organized crime, cost countless lives, and achieved zero results.

Yet, for decades, any debate around ending the war on drugs has been quashed. In official circles, it's "taboo" to talk the about regulation or decriminalisation -- some even lose their jobs for doing so.

Then a group of former presidents formed The Global Commission on Drugs to boldly speak out for reform. They faced one problem -- politicians claimed they couldn't act because there was no public support for change! So Avaaz joined the fight.

We launched the campaign, and in one week, our community proved the politicians wrong, with over 600,000 Avaazers calling for an end to the war on drugs. The ex-presidents and billionaire Richard Branson called a press conference, presented their expert report proposing reform, received the Avaaz petition -- and the response was incredible! Over 2000 media articles were written (AP, IPS, The Guardian), virtually all of them positive!! The taboo was broken...

In a strategy meeting that afternoon, the ex-presidents repeatedly looked to our community to help take the campaign forward, stressing that only grass roots pressure can create the political will for action.

The next day, the Global Commission and Avaaz met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. In 30 minutes of discussion, the Avaaz petition was presented and repeatedly cited as evidence of public demand for an end to the war. Ban took an important step and decided to create a task force to look at new solutions to the problem of drugs! A real and desperately needed debate has finally begun ...

And in the same two week period that these campaigns took place, Avaaz also played a crucial role in breaking the blackout on international coverage of Syrian repression. Our network of brave citizen journalists in Syria, funded by Avaaz donations, is one of the only sources of information for the world's media on the nightmare unfolding there.

Tell FIFA: Red Card to Homophobia

Even before the Women's World Cup 2011 kicks off this Sunday, the rules have already been broken.

This week the New York Times reported¹ that the Nigerian Football Federation has been conducting a witch-hunt to kick women off the national team² “not because they were bad players, but because they were lesbians.”

For so many young women around the world, playing at the Women’s World Cup is a dream come true. Can you imagine being kicked off your football team because of who you love?

This Sunday, Nigeria is going to take the field for the opening game of the Women's World Cup. Can you sign the petition telling FIFA--football's international governing body--to publicly condemn this kind of systematic discrimination? Tell them that homophobia has no place in the league. We'll deliver your comments to FIFA next week, during the games.

This should be a no-brainer for FIFA, which has a long history of standing up to discrimination around the world³. In 1961 FIFA expelled South Africa from the World Cup because of its racist apartheid system, readmitting them only in 1991 after the release of Nelson Mandela. In 2001 FIFA passed the Buenos Aires Resolution against racism, and followed it up with an ambitious “Say No to Racism” campaign, in response to the problem of racist taunts hurled at players around the world. And just last year the FIFA president responded to international pressure and apologized⁴ for a remark offensive to LGBT people, saying, "it was not my intention and never will be my intention to go into any discrimination ... this is exactly what we are against."

Now, as LGBT people around the world are gaining visibility and participating more fully in community life, including sports, they are too often met with discrimination, and violence. This has been especially true in Africa, where right wing Evangelical movements have recently singled-out and demonized LGBT people. One of the most high-profile recent cases in sport was that of Eudy Simelane, a beloved South African football player who was raped, beaten, stabbed and left to die near her own home last year.⁵

That’s why in Nigeria, where lesbians are sometimes ostracized and subjected to beatings, the Nigerian national football coach is playing a dangerous game with her homophobic witch-hunt. But there’s something we can do about it. In the battle against bigotry and discrimination, FIFA has real moral authority, and they can use that authority to take a clear stand against discrimination. With the Women’s World Cup launching this weekend, will you take a moment to ask FIFA president Joseph Blatter to publicly condemn Nigeria's anti-gay campaign and make clear that homophobia has no place in football?

In days, we could finally see the beginning of the end of the ‘war on drugs’. This expensive war has completely failed to curb the plague of drug addiction, while costing countless lives, devastating communities, and funneling trillions of dollars into violent organized crime networks.

Experts all agree that the most sensible policy is to regulate, but politicians are afraid to touch the issue. In days, a global commission including former heads of state and foreign policy chiefs of the UN, EU, US, Brazil, Mexico and more will break the taboo and publicly call for new approaches including decriminalization and regulation of drugs.

This could be a once-in-a-generation tipping-point moment -- if enough of us call for an end to this madness. Politicians say they understand that the war on drugs has failed, but claim the public isn't ready for an alternative. Let's show them we not only accept a sane and humane policy -- we demand it. For 50 years current drug policies have failed everyone, everywhere but public debate is stuck in the mud of fear and misinformation. Everyone, even the UN Office on Drugs and Crime which is responsible for enforcing this approach agrees -- deploying militaries and police to burn drug farms, hunting down traffickers, and imprisoning dealers and addicts – is an expensive mistake. And with massive human cost -- from Afghanistan, to Mexico, to the USA the illegal drug trade is destroying countries around the world, while addiction, overdose deaths, and HIV/AIDS infections continue to rise.

Meanwhile, countries with less-harsh enforcement -- like Switzerland, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Australia -- have not seen the explosion in drug use that proponents of the drug war have darkly predicted. Instead, they have seen significant reductions in drug-related crime, addiction and deaths, and are able to focus squarely on dismantling criminal empires.

Powerful lobbies still stand in the way of change, including military, law enforcement, and prison departments whose budgets are at stake. And politicians fear that voters will throw them out of office if they support alternative approaches, as they will appear weak on law and order. Many former drug Ministers and Heads of State have come out in favour of reform since leaving office, and polls show that citizens across the world know the current approach is a catastrophe. Momentum is gathering towards new improved policies, particularly in regions that are ravaged by the drug trade.

If we can create a worldwide outcry in the next few days to support the bold calls of the Global Commission on Drug Policy, we can overpower the stale excuses for the status quo. Our voices hold the key to change -- Sign the petition and spread the word:

Uganda Gay Death Penalty - #Avaaz

Uganda's anti-gay law has failed! It looked sure to pass last week, but after 1.6 million petition signatures delivered to Parliament, tens of thousands of phone calls to our own governments, hundreds of media stories about our campaign and a massive global outcry, Ugandan politicians dropped the bill!

It was down to the wire - religious extremists tried to push the bill through on Wednesday, and then convened an unprecedented emergency session of Parliament on Friday. But each time, within hours, we reacted. A huge congratulations to everyone who signed, called, forwarded and donated to this campaign - with our help, thousands of innocent people in Uganda's gay community do not wake up this morning facing execution for whom they chose to love.

Frank Mugisha, a courageous leader of the gay community in Uganda sent us this message:

"Brave Ugandan LGBT activists and millions of people around the world have stood together and faced down this horrendous anti-homosexuality bill.The support from the Avaaz global community has tipped the scales to prevent this Bill going forward. Global solidarity has made a huge difference"

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs' Office also wrote to Avaaz:

"Many thanks. As you know, thanks to a very large extent to the intensive lobbying and combined effort of you, other civil society representatives, EU and other governments, plus our delegation and embassies on the ground the Bill was not presented to the Parliament this morning."

This fight is not over. The extremists behind this bill could try again within just 18 months. But this is the second time we've helped defeat this bill, and we'll keep going until the hate-mongers give up.

Transforming the deeper causes of ignorance and hatred behind homophobia is an historic, long term struggle, one of the great causes of our generation. But Uganda has become a front line in that struggle, and a powerful symbol. The victory there echoes across many other places where hope is desperately needed, showing that kindness, love, tolerance and respect can defeat hatred and ignorance. Again, a huge thanks to all who made it happen.

UK -- The People vs Murdoch's Media Monopoly

Global media kingpin Rupert Murdoch's bid to tighten his stranglehold over the UK press faces a relentless challenge from Avaaz members, who've run adverts, staged public stunts, delivered massive petitions, and organised phone-ins week upon week in an effort to safeguard public debate. Libyan Massacre Prevented -- one million messages to the Security Council Our messages called for sanctions, asset freezes, and an internationally enforced no-fly zone to protect civilians in Libya. Our voices got through: the UN Ambassador from the US, one of the last hold-outs to back the motion, publicly thanked us for our messages. International action began just as Qaddafi's tanks encircled the rebel-held city of Benghazi -- and is widely credited with preventing a likely massacre of large numbers of civilians.

Berlusconi's Censorship Bill, Defeated

Tortured for Wikileaks

Right now, Wikileaks whistleblower Bradley Manning is being tortured in a US military prison. Manning is subjected to utter isolation that can drive many people insane, with short periods each day where he is stripped naked and abused by jeering inmates.

Manning is awaiting trial for releasing secret military documents to Wikileaks – including a video of US soldiers massacring Iraqi civilians. And his brutal treatment appears to be part of an intimidation campaign to silence whistleblowers and crack down on Wikileaks. The US government is split on this issue, with diplomats publicly criticizing the military for Manning's treatment, but President Obama has stood aside so far.

Obama cares about the US's global reputation - we need to show him that it's at stake here. Let's build a massive global call to the US government to stop torturing Manning and uphold the law. On paper, the United States opposes torture. The US Constitution forbids “cruel and unusual punishment". And, along with almost a hundred other countries, the US has signed an international convention promising to treat all prisoners “with humanity and with respect for the inherent dignity of the human person”. But today, Bradley Manning is utterly isolated in a cell without sheets, not allowed to exercise and is being subjected to brutal humiliation that is causing serious mental harm. This violates US and international law.

Bradley is being held under 'prevention of injury' status despite 16 reports from military mental health professionals that he should be removed from these severe conditions. His lawyers are trying to enforce his basic constitutional and international human rights in court, but so far the military tribunal responsible for Bradley’s fate has ignored his suffering.

There has been a crack down on Wikileaks since the explosive revelations of US military crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq. Many speculate that this brutal pressure on Bradley is intended to force him to implicate WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. But Obama promised Americans and the world that he would protect, not persecute, whistleblowers:

"Often the best source of information about waste, fraud, and abuse in government is an existing government employee committed to public integrity and willing to speak out. Such acts of courage and patriotism, which can sometimes save lives and often save taxpayer dollars, should be encouraged rather than stifled."

Bradley's cruel treatment does the opposite and sends a chilling message to others who may want to expose important information. Tell Harvard: Don't Sponsor Anti-Gay, Anti-Islam Hatred

On April 1-2, Harvard University will play host to an event called the "Social Transformation Conference," sponsored by the Harvard Extension Service and Leadership Society, featuring some of the most vocal, aggressive, and virulent leaders from the religious right -- people who blame homosexuality, Islam, and women's rights for the downfall of America, and who have financial ties to efforts in Uganda to pass an Anti-Homosexuality Bill that would institute the death penalty or life imprisonment for LGBT people.

The guests at this conference include:

- Dr. Lance Wallnau, who recently said: "You've got Islam invading the United States. So you've got your homosexual activity, your abortion activity here, Islam coming in, you've got a financial collapse -- all of this, to those of us who are Christians, is an apocalyptic confirmation that when you remove God from public discourse, when you don't line up your thinking with kingdom principles, you inevitably hit an iceberg like the Titanic and you go down."

- Os Hillman, who is a close colleague and financial backer of a minister in Uganda named Julius Oyet, who has perhaps been the most vocal religious leader urging for passage of the country's Anti-Homosexuality Bill, colloquially known as the "Kill the Gays" bill.

- Larry Bizette, who fought against efforts in Baton Rouge to recognize LGBT people, by telling city leaders that if they recognized gay folks, it would be akin to honoring "sin" and an "abomination."

- Dr. Jerry Anderson, whose organization, the La Red Business Network, adheres to a "morality" policy that believes same-sex marriage and reproductive rights should be outlawed in every facet of society.

- Dr. Bil Hamon, who believes that homosexuality is akin to incest and sex with animals, and who argues on his Web site that people should adhere to the biblical principle that homosexuality should be punished by execution.

Why is Harvard University and the Harvard Extension Service and Leadership Society willing to put their name, branding, and sponsorship all over this event? Is this the type of event on campus that creates an environment that honors Harvard's rich commitment to students of varying faiths, genders, sexual orientations, and religions? Absolutely not.

Send Harvard a message that this conference doesn't belong on campus with the University's support and sponsorship. This event is giving a platform to some of the most hateful and vengeful rhetoric on the religious right -- targeted at LGBT people, women, Muslims, and anyone considered an "other". It doesn't belong at Harvard.

Dear Dean Neugeboren and the Harvard Extension Student Association

I'm writing today about an event scheduled for April 1-2 -- and sponsored by the Harvard Extension Service and Leadership Society -- that will bring to campus some of the most virulent, aggressive, and vocal leaders from the religious right. This event is being branded as a Harvard University event, and says that it is being cosponsored by the Harvard Extension Service and Leadership Society. This event is concerning on a number of levels, but perhaps no more so than the fact that several of the speakers attending the event have a track record of aggressive, violent and brutal rhetoric directed toward gays and lesbians, women, and members of the Islamic faith. A few of the speakers that will present at this Harvard-sponsored event:

I'm also doubly shocked that Harvard University would allow this conference to be hosted on campus, given the University's commitment to inclusion of students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, as well as students who are women and members of the Islamic faith.

This event, branded as a Harvard University-sponsored event, is damaging to the school's reputation, and will only legitimize the rhetoric and political platforms of extremely conservative members of the religious right.

I urge you to pull your sponsorship of this event. Harvard should not be in the business of hosting speakers who say that gays, women, and Muslims are "hellish" and responsible for the downfall of the United States. Please do not sponsor this event, and allow Harvard's image to be branded on it.

Stop the Delay on Donations to Japan

Demand that Apple remove "ex-gay" iPhone app

Exodus International, the notorious "ex-gay" organization, has just released an iPhone app that, according to its website, is "designed to be a useful resource for men, women, parents, students, and ministry leaders." The Exodus website further boasts that its app received a 4+ rating from Apple, meaning that it contains "no objectionable content."

No objectionable content? We beg to differ. Exodus' message is hateful and bigoted. They claim to offer "freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus Christ" and use scare tactics, misinformation, stereotypes and distortions of LGBT life to recruit clients. They endorse the use of so-called "reparative therapy" to "change" the sexual orientation of their clients, despite the fact that this form of "therapy" has been rejected by every major professional medical organization including the American Psychological Association, the American Medical Association, and the American Counseling Association. But reparative therapy isn't just bad medicine -- it's also very damaging to the self-esteem and mental health of its victims.

This new iPhone app is the latest move in Exodus' dangerous new strategy of targeting youth. In light of the recent wave of LGBT youth suicides, this tactic is particularly galling as it creates, legitimizes, and fuels the ostracism of LGBT youth by their families. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, LGBT teens who experienced negative feedback from their family were 8 times more likely to have attempted suicide, 6 times as vulnerable to severe depression, and 3 times more likely to use drugs (Caitlin Ryan, San Francisco State University, June 2009).

Apple's app guidelines released in September last year detailed rules on how the company decides what can and cannot be sold through its store: "Any app that is defamatory, offensive, mean-spirited, or likely to place the targeted individual or group in harms way will be rejected," the company states.

Apple doesn't allow racist or anti-Semitic apps in its app store, yet it is giving the green light to an app targeting vulnerable LGBT youth with the message that their sexual orientation is a "sin that will make your heart sick" and a "counterfeit." This is a double standard that has the potential for devastating consequences.

Apple needs to be told, loud and clear, that this is unacceptable. Stand with Truth Wins Out -- demand that the iTunes store stop supporting homophobia and remove the Exodus app.

Stop Quaddafi #Libya

The Arab League has just formally proposed a resolution at the UN Security Council to create a no-fly zone over Libya. After weeks of international deadlock, this is the moment of truth -- and if we don't persuade the UN to act now, we could see in Libya one of the worst bloodbaths of our new century.

Qaddafi's forces are crushing the rebellion town by town. If they retake the country, brutal retribution awaits Libyans who challenged the regime. Already, reports of torture and killing are flowing from retaken areas.

Ordinary Libyans are asking if the world has abandoned them. The Avaaz community is deeply committed to non-violence, but enforcing a no-fly zone to ground Qaddafi's gunships is one case where UN-backed military action seems necessary. Polls of our community show 86% of us support a no-fly zone. Now, as the decisive UN vote nears, it's time for the biggest outcry we can raise.

The UN is split, but the ground is shifting rapidly -- with China, Russia, and Germany arguing against, and the Arab League, the Islamic Conference, the UK, and France pushing in favor. The US and India are on the fence. This is no old-style East-West debate, nor, as some fear, an oil-grab conspiracy. The Libyan provisional council, which France has recognized as Libya's legitimate government, is desperately calling for the no-fly zone and international support, but with each passing day, the danger grows that any help will come too late.

A no-fly zone alone isn't a silver bullet -- it should be matched by still-stronger targeted sanctions and asset freezes, jamming of Qaddafi's violence-inciting broadcasts, and more countries extending diplomatic recognition to Libya's provisional council. Even with all of that, it could fall short. But those opposing strong action must ask whether, with tens of thousands of lives in the balance, they're ready to call for inaction.

International law and the UN Security Council have made clear that, when mass crimes against humanity are committed, the international community has a responsibility to protect people from these crimes, even if their attacker is their own government. In the best-case scenario, Qaddafi would react to a UN resolution about a no-fly zone by ending his air attacks. But if he does not, enforcing the no-fly zone would require strikes on fighters he attempts to use, and possibly air strikes on Qaddafi's anti-aircraft missile batteries. There is a chance that a no-fly zone could lead to deeper international military involvement in Libya.

While the world (and Avaaz) objected strongly to George W. Bush's war in Iraq, and we have advocated for peaceful solutions to conflicts in numerous places, this is not Iraq. If we don't act soon, Libya could look more like Darfur, with massive crimes against humanity committed against whole communities of people. The Qaddafi regime has a long history of torture, massacring its own people and sponsoring international terrorism, and the Libyan people are unified against Qaddafi’s troops – even his own tribe and hometown have distanced themselves from his actions.

UPDATE (17 March):The UNSC has agreed to take all necessary measures to protect the people of Libya under threat of attack, including a No-Fly Zone! Together, we flooded the Security Council with 1.1 million calls to action. The Libyan people have called for this support, and we hope it will halt the violence, and give Libya a chance at a path out from tyranny.

UPDATE (18 March): Responding to the UN resolution, Qaddafi's foreign minister today announced "an immediate ceasefire and the stoppage of all military operations." If this is matched by a genuine end to attacks, this is welcome news. Avaaz will continue to monitor the situation closely and work to ensure a just future for Libya.

Its estimated that 40 percent of the population of Mauritania, West Africa, is either living in slavery or has a relative who is.

Slaves in Mauritania are raised in a social and religious system that reinforces the legitimacy of their situation everyday. Many are told by their masters that the only way to get to "paradise" is by obeying their orders completely. Slaves face beatings and rape on a daily basis, and have no legal way to stop it.

Although Mauritania criminalized the owning of slaves in 2007, anti-slavery activists say that very few are sentenced. Activists also report that authorities often refuse to take accusations of slavery seriously because many of them are slave owners as well.

Mauritania needs to recognise the basic human rights that thousands of citizens are being denied. Join us in putting pressure on the Mauritanian government by sending a message to the Mauritanian Embassy to the United States. Let them know that the practice of slavery is unacceptable and perpetrators need to be prosecuted now.

As Qaddafi's jets drop bombs on the Libyan people, the UN Security Council will decide in 48 hours whether to impose a no-fly zone to keep the government's warplanes on the ground.

Together, we've sent 450,000 emails to the UN Security Council, "overwhelming" the Council President and and helping to win targeted sanctions and a justice process for the Libyan people. Now, to stop the bloodshed, we need a massive outcry for a no-fly zone.

If Qaddafi can't dominate the air, he loses a key weapon in a war in which civilians are paying the heaviest price. But as long as his helicopter gunships and bombers are in the air, the death toll will rise. We have just 48 hours left -- let's hit 1 million messages to stop Qaddafi's deadly attacks before it's too late:

The Libyan opposition has called on the international community to help "protect the Libyan people from the crimes against humanity being committed on them". The UK Foreign Secretary says "there are credible reports of the use of helicopter gunships against civilians by government forces."

The head of NATO, meanwhile, has said that any effort to create a no-fly zone would first require a resolution from the UN. In many crises like this one, one UN country or another has vetoed strong positions -- but with Libya, something different has already begun. The Security Council's sanctions are real. UN Ambassadors say that representatives are "substantially united" that Qaddafi has to go. What's needed now is another push from the world's people.

A resolution wouldn't be a silver bullet -- the enforcement of a no-fly zone would be dangerous and complex. But even the serious threat of one could show Qaddafi that his time is up. Το 1978 ο ινδος μαχαραγιας αλ-γιαμπιμπι δεχτηκε αυτο το γραμμα. Δεν εδωσε σημασια και εχασε τους 122.000 χιλιάδες ελεφαντες που είχε. Απαρηγορητος που έχασε τους πιστους του φιλους το εστειλε σε 20 ατομα και απο τότε απεκτησε αλλους τοσους ελεφαντες, 155 τιγρεις (λευκές παρακαλω), 177 μαιμουδες, 359 αγελάδες και μία γυναικα για συντροφια.

Το 1998 και αφου το γράμμα ειχε κανει το γύρο του κοσμου 9 φορες (τωρα πως διαπιστωνεται το 9 και οχι 10 π.χ.δεν ξερω) ο ινδος μαχαραγιας ξαναδεχτηκε το γραμμα. Ο ινδος αυτη τη φορα δεν εκανε απολυτως αφου ειχε ήδη ανοιξει 17 ζωολογικους κηπους και έτσι μετα τις 96 ωρες που περασαν έχασε τα παντα εκτος απο τη γυναικα η οποια ως γνωστον αντεχει σε λοιμους καταποντισμους και πυρηνικες καταστροφες. Προσπαθησε να το ξαναστειλει αλλα ματαια και τωρα πλεον ζει με τη γυναικα-ρομποκοπ αναπολώντας τους ζωολογικους κηπους και τον ταρζαν που ειχε για παρεα.

Για τρίτη συνεχόμενη χρονιά η Ελλάδα συμμετέχει στην παγκόσμια εκστρατεία του WWF ενάντια στην κλιματική αλλαγή που έχει χαρακτηριστεί ως «το μεγαλύτερο συμμετοχικό γεγονός στον πλανήτη».

Κάθε χρόνο η Ώρα της Γης λαμβάνει και έναν ξεχωριστό χαρακτήρα. Το 2009, όπου οι Έλληνες συμμετείχαν με πρωτοφανή ενθουσιασμό, η εκστρατεία εστίασε τη δυναμική της στην Κοπεγχάγη. Ένα χρόνο αργότερα και μετά τις άκαρπες διαπραγματεύσεις στην πρωτεύουσα της Δανίας, η Ώρα της Γης ήρθε να μας υπενθυμίσει ότι όταν χάνεται μια μάχη δεν χάνεται και ο πόλεμος.

Φέτος, η Ώρα της Γης 2011 ξεπερνάει τον ίδιο της τον εαυτό! Μας θέτει απλά ερωτήματα για το τι πραγματικά κάνουμε για την αντιμετώπιση της κλιματικής αλλαγής, μετά από την μια συμβολική ώρα στο σκοτάδι.

Οι μηχανισμοί της δικαιοσύνης δεν πρόκειται να σε βοηθήσουν - είναι αργοί, ψυχροί και ανήκουν στους πολιτικούς, τόσο σε επίπεδο εξαρτημάτων όσο και σε επίπεδο λογισμικού. Οι ισχυροί αυτοί που νέμονται την εξουσία, αυτοί περνάνε απο τα γρανάζια της με ένα χαμόγελο και κλείνοντας το μάτι. Αν θέλεις δικαιοσύνη, θα πρέπει να την βρεις μόνος σου. Καν' το ΠΡΟΣΩΠΙΚΟ. In Libya, Colonel Qaddafi's armed forces are using machine guns and fighter jets against pro-democracy protesters -- hundreds have already been killed and, without immediate international action, the situation could spiral into a national bloodbath.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is in emergency meetings on Libya now. If we can pressure them to agree to a no-fly zone over Libya, a freeze of Qaddafi's, his family's and his high command's assets, targeted sanctions against the regime, and international prosecution of any military officials involved in the crackdown -- this could stop airforce bombings and split Qaddafi's command structure.

Λογοκρισία μετα μουσικής

Ένα τρυφερό γκέι φιλί λίγων δευτερολέπτων ήταν αρκετό για να μας δείξουν τα ελληνικά κανάλια που απευθύνονται σε ένα κατ’ εξοχήν νεανικό κοινό πως αντιλαμβάνονται έννοιες όπως ο έρωτας, η ελευθερία και η διαφορετικότητα και ποια ακριβώς μηνύματα περνάνε στους εφήβους που τα παρακολουθούν.

Ο λόγος για το καινούριο βίντεο-κλιπ της Katy Perry που έχει τίτλο “Firework” και γυρίστηκε στη Βουδαπέστη. Σύμφωνα με το chart του iTunes, το τραγούδι είναι εδώ και αρκετό καιρό νο1 σε ψηφιακές πωλήσεις στην Ελλάδα. Το βίντεο διηγείται τις ιστορίες εφήβων περιθωριοποιημένων για διάφορους λόγους, που όμως τα καταφέρνουν να υπερασπιστούν τον εαυτό τους και να “βγουν από το καβούκι” τους. Σε μία από τις σκηνές, ένας έφηβος που παρακολουθεί σε μια γωνία τους συνομήλικούς του να διασκεδάζουν σε ένα πάρτι, βρίσκει το θάρρος να προσεγγίσει ερωτικά ένα άλλο αγόρι. Η προσέγγιση καταλήγει σε ένα φιλί που συνοδεύεται από πυροτεχνήματα – και δεν διαρκεί πάνω από δύο δευτερόλεπτα. Τόσο το Mad TV όσο και το MTV Greece, που προβάλλουν το συγκεκριμένο βίντεο αρκετές φορές την ημέρα, αποφάσισαν να το λογοκρίνουν καλύπτοντας την επίμαχη σκηνή με μωσαϊκό.

Το βίντεο είναι η συμβολή της ποπ τραγουδίστριας στον αγώνα που γίνεται για να ευαισθητοποιηθεί η κοινή γνώμη γύρω από το θέμα της περιθωριοποίησης των γκέι εφήβων, με αφορμή το πρόσφατο κύμα αυτοκτονιών που συγκλόνισε την Αμερική. Το κοινωνικό του μήνυμα δεν φαίνεται όμως να απασχολεί τους μακάριους υπεύθυνους προγράμματος των νεανικών καναλιών. Να σημειωθεί ότι οι ίδιοι άνθρωποι πριν από λίγους μήνες πρόβαλλαν χωρίς καμία λογοκρισία τις λεσβιακές σκηνές στα βιντεο-κλιπ της Lady Gaga και της Rihanna. Στο μεταξύ μόλις την περασμένη εβδομάδα το Μad TV, θέλοντας να δείξει πόσο πρόθυμο είναι να περάσει στη νεολαία τα κατάλληλα “κοινωνικά μηνύματα”, πρόβαλλε μια εκπομπή με τίτλο “Πόσο ρατσιστές είμαστε απέναντι στους μετανάστες"…

Προφανώς για τα ελληνικά κανάλια ο ρατσισμός είναι κακός μόνο όταν έχει να κάνει με το χρώμα του δέρματος. Και οι ομοφυλοφιλικές σκηνές είναι καλές μόνο όταν περιλαμβάνουν γυναίκες – κατά προτίμηση νέες και όμορφες…

Το συμπέρασμα είναι ένα: τον μεσαίωνα γινόταν της κακομοίρας. Οι παπάδες ήταν μεν υστερικοί αλλά και τα διαβόλια κάναν πάρτυ στα στενά. Εν μέσω αυτού του χαμού ο Σολομών Καίν την είδε κατατρεγμένος διότι έκανε πολλές αμαρτίες (ενώ όλοι οι άλλοι ήταν αθώα περιστέρια) οπότε στην προσπάθεια του να σώσει την ψυχή του, σώζει μια κοπελιά και τρώει λάχανο τον Βελζεβούλ, τον μάγο που τον ξεσήκωσε και όλα του τα τσιράκια.

Εμένα μου άρεσε αλλά εγώ είμαι λίγο περίεργη. Δες και πες εσύ αγαπητέ αναγνώστα ...

Mubarak's corrupt fortune

Mubarak is out -- but he may take unimaginable wealth out with him. Estimates of his stolen fortune range as high as $70 billion, more than a third of the entire Egyptian economy.

Time is running out for world governments to freeze Mubarak’s assets before they disappear into a maze of obscure bank accounts -- like so many other dictator's stolen fortunes. Switzerland has already frozen his finances, and some EU ministers have offered help -- but without an immediate global outcry, action may come too slowly to stop the Mubarak billions from vanishing.

Let's call on leaders of all nations to ensure that Egypt's money is returned to the people. Our petition will be delivered, if we reach 500,000 signatures, to G20 finance ministers when they meet this Friday in Paris. Let's add our names now and spread the word!

Mubarak's Fortune

Millions of Egyptians live on less than $2 per day -- yet experts say that corruption costs Egypt more than $6 billion in public money per year. The Mubaraks themselves have benefited massively from a web of business deals, crony-capitalist privatization schemes, and state-guaranteed investments throughout Mubarak's 30 years as president. Estimates of their wealth run from a "mere" $2-3 billion to the staggering $70 billion figure, which would make Hosni Mubarak the world's richest man. And 25 senior government officials are already under investigation for amassing fortunes above $1 billion while serving under him.

But the days may finally be over when corrupt rulers can escape with their fortunes intact. The new United Nations Convention Against Corruption explicitly calls for the return of corruptly-gained assets to the countries of origin, and Egypt's military government has already asked European Union governments to freeze Mubarak's fortune. The key question now is whether action will come fast enough: all the laws in the world won't help if the Mubarak billions are shuffled out of sight before authorities can seize them.

Πολύ καλή ταινία. H Natalie Portman στο ρόλο της ημίτρελης μπαλαρίνας είναι εξαιρετική. Η Mila Kunis (Λίλη) είναι κουκλάρα - πιο κουκλαρα απο την Portman είναι η αλήθεια και ο Vincent Cassel πάντα μου άρεσε. Αδικημένη - ως ρόλο - θεωρώ την μητέρα που ως χαρακτήρας δεν αναπτύχθηκε αρκετα. Είναι υπερπροστατευτική - βλέπε στενός κορσές. Απλά ανησυχεί για την κόρη της και με το δίκιο της? Δεν μπόρεσα να καταλάβω.

Για να γίνει άρση της βουλευτικής ασυλίας πρέπει να γίνει αναθεώρηση του συντάγματος - πράγμα σχεδόν αδύνατον - διότι είναι συνταγματικό δικαίωμα των βουλευτών (δηλ.προβλέπεται από το Σύνταγμα). Για να απαγγείλει κατηγορίες η Δικαιοσύνη σε έναν βουλευτή απαιτείται ή άδεια της Βουλής . Είναι δε χαρακτηριστικό πως από το 1974 έως σήμερα κατατέθηκαν στο Ελληνικό Κοινοβούλιο σχεδόν 700 αιτήσεις για την άρση της ασυλίας από τις οποίες έγιναν αποδεκτές τρεις!!… ενώ κατά την καθ όλη τη διάρκεια της μεταπολεμικής περιόδου, η άδειες περί άρσης της ασυλίας δόθηκε μόνο σε δέκα περιπτώσεις!!!..

Αυτό που θέλουμε να πετύχουμε είναι να υποχρεώσουμε τη Βουλή, να δίνει παντα την άδεια στη Δικαιoσύνη για συνέχιση των νομικών και δικαστικών ενεργειών και περεταίρω δίωξης.

Δεν απαιτείται συγκεκριμένος αριθμός υπογραφών που πρέπει να συγκεντρωθούν, διότι ένα αίτημα είναι αυτό ακριβώς που λέει. Αιτείται. Ζητάει δηλαδή κάτι, κι ανεξάρτητα από τον αριθμό των υπογραφών (ακόμα κι αν είναι ολόκληρο το εκλογικό σώμα) δεν νομιμοποιείται να δημιουργεί υποχρέωση εκτέλεσης του αιτήματος. Το αίτημά μας είναι ένα μέσο πίεσης προς την Νομοθετική εξουσία ώστε να πετύχουμε την άρση της βουλευτικής ασυλίας προς χάριν της ισότητας και της ισονομίας των πολιτών. Οσο περισσότερες υπογραφές έχουμε, τόσο μεγαλύτερη είναι η πίεση που θα υποστούν.

Είναι λοιπόν πραγματικά ευνόητο απ όλους μας πως Αυτό που εδώ όλοι εμείς επιδιώκουμε είναι από τη «φύση» του και για ευνόητους λόγους πραγματικά δύσκολο… Στη πραγματικότητα η τυχόν επίτευξη του καλοπροαίρετου Στόχου μας θα άλλαζε την ίδια τη λειτουργία του Πολιτειακού μας συστήματος και θα το μετέτρεπε σε Πολίτευμα Άμεσης Δημοκρατίας, κατά το πρότυπο σχεδόν της Αθηναϊκής Δημοκρατίας, ενώ συγχρόνως για να λειτουργήσει θετικά και εποικοδομητικά προς όφελος του ελληνικού Λαού θα απαιτείτο εκ των προτέρων καθένας από εμάς τους πολίτες να διαθέτει σε ατομικό επίπεδο πολιτική νοοτροπία …Πολίτη της Αθηναϊκής Δημοκρατίας επίσης.

Η Προσπάθεια που κάνουμε εδώ, οφείλεται στα όσα παράνομα, άδικα, επισφαλή και καταστροφικά έχουν συμβεί σε βάρος της χώρας μας από εκείνους που δε σεβαστήκαν όχι μόνο εμάς, τους Πολίτες και το όρκο του Βουλευτή που έδωσαν τη στιγμή του διορισμού τους, αλλά από εκείνους που ήταν αποφασισμένοι να εισέλθουν στη Πολιτική με μοναδικό σκοπό την επαύξηση της ατομικής τους περιουσίας αδιαφορώντας για τα δεινά στα οποία θα άγονταν η ίδια τους η πατρίδα…

Ζωή Παούρη : Ο λόγος που συνέταξα και ανέβασα το αίτημα στο GoPetion είναι μόνο γιατί απαιτώ δικαιοσύνη, ισονομία, ισότητα για τη χώρα μου. Μια αίτηση (petition) είναι ένα αίτημα για να αλλάξει κάτι. Συχνά απευθύνεται σε κάποιον κυβερνητικό αξιωματούχο ή δημόσιο φορέα. Τα αιτήματα που απευθύνονται σε μια θεότητα είναι μια μορφή προσευχής. Στη σύγχρονη εποχή μπορεί να είναι είτε προφορικό αίτημα είτε γραπτό, ενώ συχνά μεταδίδεται μέσω διαδικτύου. Ο όρος έχει επίσης συγκεκριμένη έννοια στη νομική ορολογία, ως αίτημα που απευθύνεται σε δικαστήριο ή επιτροπή, αποζητώντας κάποιου είδους απαλλαγή ή δικαστική απόφαση.

Το αίτημα μπορεί επίσης να αποτελεί τον τίτλο μιας έγγραφης πρότασης που κινεί μια νομική διαδικασία εκδίκασης υπόθεσης. Η εναρκτήριος πρόταση σε πολιτική αγωγή που αποζητά μονάχα χρηματική αποζημίωση συνήθως ονομάζεται (στα περισσότερα δικαστήρια των ΗΠΑ) καταγγελία. Η εναρκτήριος πρόταση σε αγωγή που αποζητά μη-χρηματική ή "δίκαιη" απόφαση όπως το αίτημα για δικαστική εντολή, χάμπεας κόρπους (προσαγωγή κρατουμένου για να διαπιστωθεί η νομιμότητα της προσωποκράτησης) ή για την επιμέλεια ενός παιδιού ή την επικύρωση διαθήκης, θα ονομαζόταν "αίτημα".
